Setting the Standard
This philosophy is evident in everything our family business produces, especially our pickles. We exclusively work with the highest quality cucumbers, and we pickle those cucumbers within 5 days. For reference, the pickling process takes most large manufacturers 6-12 months.
By pickling a high-quality cucumber much quicker, our cucumbers keep their natural crunch without adding any artificial ingredients. You’ll find our competitors need to add chemicals or preservatives to replicate the ‘all-natural crunch’ we offer.
We’ve even patented the way we cut our cucumbers, so anyone can tell a pickle is ours just by looking at it. We call our signature look “Crown Cuts.” Crown Cuts are flat on the bottom, and crinkle on the top, forming a crown-like shape. Since we’re from the “City of Champions,” we thought a crown was fitting.
Today, we set the standard for what a pickle should be – fresh, crunchy, and clean.

Leaders, Not Followers
We opened our bar, The Beerhive, in 2011 and wanted to offer fried pickles as a menu item. We weren’t satisfied with the pickle options that were available though, we wanted to use an all-natural pickle. So, we did what any good Pittsburgher would do – we made our own.
We started making pickles for our bar and within a year, we needed more space. We moved pickle production to our church’s basement before purchasing our own manufacturing plant.
Today, the Pittsburgh Pickle Company facility manufactures all Pittsburgh Pickle Company items as well as a handful of co-packed and private-labeled items.
